The mission of the Gdynia Maritime University is to train staff officers for the merchant fleet and business managerial inland maritime facilities that meet national, and world educational requirements and to give graduates the base to their career on the global labor market. The learning process is supported by scientific research whose results are used in practice to increase navigation safety and efficiency of enterprises in the Pomerania region and strengthen the position of universities as a center for creating intellectual and cultural background of their environment.

Misją Akademii Morskiej w Gdyni jest kształcenie kadr oficerskich dla floty handlowej oraz menadżerskich dla przedsiębiorstw lądowego zaplecza gospodarki morskiej, spełniające krajowe, europejskie i światowe wymagania edukacyjne i dające absolwentom podstawy kariery zawodowej w warunkach gospodarki rynkowej na globalnym rynku pracy. Proces kształcenia jest wspierany przez badania naukowe, których wyniki są wykorzystywane w praktyce dla zwiększenia bezpieczeństwa żeglugi i efektywności przedsiębiorstw regionu pomorskiego oraz umacniają pozycję uczelni jako ośrodka tworzącego zaplecze intelektualne i kulturalne swojego otoczenia.

Students of the Gdynia Maritime University have the opportunity to practice serving on board of two University owned ships. The first is three-masted frigate Dar. The second unit of the school is Horizon II. Both vessels are fully equipped thus enabling students to acquire the necessary practical knowledge of shipping.

Studenci Akademii Morskiej w Gdyni mają możliwość odbywania praktyk morskich na dwóch statkach szkolnych. Pierwszym z nich jest wizytówka AM, trzymasztowa fregata Dar Młodzieży. Drugą jednostką szkolną jest Horyzont II. Oba statki są doskonale wyposażone umożliwiając studentom zdobywanie niezbędnej wiedzy praktycznej z zakresu żeglugi morskiej.
