r/v Merian off the African coast

r/v Maria S. Merian

The research vessel Meria S. Merian is operating in the coastal waters off the west african coast almost all the summer 2011. In the first part from June 24th to August 20th physical ocenaographer investigate the hydrographical characteristics (mainly temperature, salinity and currents). Dr. Volker Mohrholz reports from his daily work far away from the Baltic Sea coast.

The second part of the cruise from August 23 to September 20th is devoted to the biology. Dr. Lutz Postel comes back to his scientific routes and repeats the same investigations on distribution of zooplancton as he did almost 40 years ago during his PhD studies. This gives him the oportunity to see what has changed since that time. If you like to know how it proceedes - keep watching this blog....
