The South Baltic Edutainment Day 2013, which took place on 18th September 2013 in Gdansk, was the pivotal contribution of the South Baltic Programme to a series of events all over Europe to celebrate the European co-operation. 17 South Baltic projects came up with compelling ideas how to inspire young people to pursue the virtues of maritime cross-border co-operation. Hundreds of school students aged between 12 and 19 immersed themselves into the world of cross-border maritime mobility and affinity, education and culture, innovation and sustainability, prosperity and unity.

The event was designed to resemble a school day seeking the integration with English class curricula.

In keeping with the tagline “Catch the South Baltic winds in your sails, explore, discover, get inspired!”, the South Baltic projects have designed a myriad of attractions including artistic installations, performances, augmented reality, virtual tours, eLearning, eGuides, interactive games, demonstrations, screenings, hands-on experiments, lectures and tangible models.

The event embraced the opportunity to highlight the maritime nature of the South Baltic Programme with contributions such as “What’s it like to be a sailor?” (project M.A.S.T.), virtual panorama museum tours and eGuide trials (project BalticMuseums 2.0 Plus), “Make a career in the maritime sector – quiz with awards” (project Generation BALT), experiments on Baltic sea hydrography (project South Baltic WebLab), computer simulation of dredged materials disposal (project ECODUMP).
